The Campus

The University of California at Berkeley offers students a vast range of scholarly endeavors with 31,000 students, a distinguished faculty, and nearly 300 degree programs. Berkeley is internationally noted for its academic excellence. In a recent national study, Berkeley was the only college or university that had every one of its departments ranked among the top five in the country. It is by any measure one of the world's leading intellectual centers.

The campus is surrounded by wooded, rolling hills and the fascinating city of Berkeley (population 106,500), which has a long history as one of America's most lively and politically adventurous cities.

The San Francisco Bay Area offers a diversity of culture, entertainment, and natural beauty without rival. San Francisco, across the Bay, is easily accessible by the Bay Area Rapid Transit System. Other nearby attractions are the rivers, forests and beaches of the Northern California coast, the hiking and biking trails of Mount Tamalpais, and the vineyards of Napa and Sonoma counties. Lake Tahoe, nestled in the incomparable Sierra Nevada mountains is just a three to four hour drive away.
