David Freedman

David Freedman has done fundamental research in both theoretical and applied statistics and in probability theory. His current research interests include procedures for evaluating models; performance characteristics of standard procedures under non-standard conditions; asymptotic behavior of Bayes' estimates in high-dimensional problems; foundations of statistics. He has worked as a consultant on railroad tax assessment, voting rights litigation, and census adjustment. He is interested in teaching basic statistics, and is an author of the widely used introductory text Statistics and of the advanced monographs Markov Chains, Approximating Countable Markov Chains and Brownian Motion, and Diffusion. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
