Genomic sequence is being recorded at an ever-increasing rate. For the Human Genome Project to meet its deadline (the year 2005) it is estimated that database contributions will soon have to be on the order of 2 million base pairs a day! So the task of interpreting the complex 4-letter code is becoming more important and with the volume of work involved there is great need for the use of automated methods to assist (or maybe even replace) human inspection.
