The material for this lecture is largely taken from two papers reviewing Monte Carlo methods in pedigree analysis: ``Monte Carlo Likelihood in Genetic Mapping'' by E.A. Thompson [14] and ``Monte Carlo Methods in Genetic Analysis'' by S. Lin [7]. Chapter 9 of the book ``Mathematical and Statistical Methods for Genetic Analysis'' by K. Lange [4] is another introduction to the subject.
