Tanya entered the UC Berkeley Biostatistics Ph.D. program after studying Mathematics at Spelman College in Atlanta, GA and earning a Masters in Mathematical Sciences from Johns Hopkins University. During her studies, she has explored 1) ways of using mathematics to learn more about medical science and 2) how methods evaluating treatment-effect using data from observational studies can be improved. She is also interested in investigating how learning/mastering mathematics and science can help to build self-esteem and confidence in teens and young adults.

Her hobbies include dancing (ballet, modern, and jazz), reading, and playing with her nieces, Tarina and Angelia.
